Today I decided that my new short-term favorite vegetable was cilantro.
I made this life changing mature decision while savoring my wonderfully creamy
large caramel shake (with pecans and extra caramel, thank you very much).
Seriously though, isn’t cilantro one of the most delicious vegetables on earth?
Isn’t it? I mean… now that I think of it… is it even a real life vegetable? Am
I momentarily infatuated with a tasteful concept and not a real thing? I mean,
it feels like it’s treated more like a condiment than a veggie. Just like
garlic, or oregano (both equally delicious and as close to my culinary
promiscuous heart) I think it is hard on poor Cilantro’s feelings to keep
hearing things like “spinach salad” “red cabbage salad” and even “rose salad” (it
is a thing, I swear. Google it if you don’t believe me) and to never, ever be
invited to be the star of a super duper delicious “cilantro salad”. ‘Cuz let’s
be honest, I obviously haven’t done much research about it (I am busy eating
ice cream), but I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard of a “garlic salad” or “oregano
salad”. They are like the teenagers of the green world… they’re not really one
thing, and not completely the other. They’re told they are one thing, and then
treated like something completely different. This is really unfair. I don’t
know if there is a place where I can go complain and fight for the rights and
proper treatments for mistreated veggie-seasonings.
All I can think is buy a fish and name it Cilantro and fight for his
rights in the name of the real cilantro plant.
Vegetable or not it is awesome, and I will faithfully eat it until I get
sick of it and find a new pseudo veggie (I’m looking at you, tomato) to
temporarily love for the rest of my days.
